“The struggle always wins, that was my motto. What happened is that I put all my artistic dreams in the corner for years and when the struggle to get my mind right back at it was too overwhelming to deal with I eventually found the peace to channel all that hidden energy into the act of composing. It was just a matter of letting things go."

This is how Gianlorenzo De Sanctis, tries to explain the creative process leading to his debut album, APART, in which he has put years of experimenting with analogic instruments and electronic gear played all by himself with a dozen of rejected projects in the middle.

Among bony night sounds and fat unbreathable atmospheres, somewhere between ambient, drone and pop, there’s a little niche for HVSBAND. While recovering from a bad head injury, Gianlorenzo De Sanctis tried to plug the hole in his head with some serious experimental mess, thus creating APART.

Cutting his teeth in Bologna’s alternative scene, once the thrilling adventure with post-punk trio Buzz Aldrin ended, Gianlorenzo started playing as Hvsband. At the end of 2000, he put his foot into UK’s music scene, releasing a 7’’ with Robot Elephant, earning mentions on TheLineOfBestFit, Clash and The Quietus, among others, and gaining the title of di New Band of the Day on the national institution The Guardian.

APART, his latest effort, is an intimate, passive-aggressive letter to himself, a personal journey out on limited cassette on More Letters Records.
